Repair a corrupted DJI Osmo Action video
The final clip on an Osmo Action card can become unplayable after battery loss, a crash, overheating or a card interruption. The video data is usually on the card; what is missing is the index the camera writes when recording stops.
Common failure scenario
The final clip may become unplayable after battery loss, a device crash, sudden shutdown or card interruption. Keep the original file and avoid recording more material onto the card when further source recovery may be necessary.
What to keep with the damaged clip
- The untouched damaged recording, copied from the card with a card reader.
- A short playable Osmo Action clip from the same recording mode, if available.
- The original resolution, frame rate, codec, bit depth, color profile and stabilization settings.
Why Osmo Action files need a careful repair
Recent Osmo Action models record HEVC or H.264 video with AAC audio, plus DJI metadata tracks written alongside every frame. When the index is lost, a repair has to separate these interleaved metadata blocks from the picture and sound. A reference clip from the same camera and mode shows exactly how they are laid out.
How FrameRescue handles Osmo Action files
FrameRescue analyzes the damaged MP4, rebuilds the index around the video and audio that survived and checks the result before offering it. You pay €5.00 only if a repaired file is ready. Other DJI cameras and drones are handled the same way; for drones see also the DJI Phantom 4 guide.
DJI Osmo Action repair questions
Can a 10-bit or D-Log M Osmo Action clip be repaired?
The approach is the same for 8-bit and 10-bit recordings. What matters is a reference clip recorded with the same resolution, frame rate, bit depth and color profile.
Will the repaired clip keep stabilization?
RockSteady and HorizonSteady are applied by the camera while recording, so the repaired footage looks as it was recorded.
The camera shut down because it was too hot. Is that the same?
Usually the camera stops recording cleanly before an overheating shutdown, so the clip should play. If it doesn’t, treat it like any interrupted recording.
